On Thursday 24th October, we arrived at the British High Commissioner’s residence in Accra to co-host a dinner with H.E. Peter Jones for the launch of the GUBA awards in Ghana.
The dinner was a chance for senior business leaders in the region to come together and discuss the issues impacting the business environment in Ghana with H.E. Peter Jones, the British High Commissioner, and Sam Brandful, Ghana Manager for Invest in Africa, sharing the hosting duties.
This dinner brought together Invest in Africa’s Global Partners and Local Partners but also gave senior representatives from other international companies such as Standard Chartered and Vodaphone an opportunity to share their experiences of doing business in Ghana – the challenges and the opportunities that these create.
Invest in Africa also took to the stage as the sponsor of the ‘Sustainable Business Award’, a new category in this year’s judging. This award marries perfectly with our objectives: rewarding those companies that understand that doing business sustainably and displaying a commitment to the economies in which they operate is how to be successful. Sam Brandful’s address focused on how at Invest in Africa we are aiming to make it easier to do business in Africa through building long term local partnerships.
In recognition of our sponsorship, Sam said: “Invest in Africa is a proud supporter of GUBA and we are delighted to be sponsoring the ‘Sustainable Business Award’; celebrating companies in Ghana and the UK that have created jobs, transferred skills and supported local communities.
We share GUBA’s commitment to recognising excellence and consider it a privilege to raise the profile of Ghanaian businesses via our online platform – the Africa Partner Pool – supporting them on their growth journey.”
The next stop on the GUBA circuit is London on 16th November, where the winner of the Invest in Africa ‘Sustainable Business Award’ will be announced. We would like to wish good luck to all four nominees involved.
